Standard International opened a new concept, The Manner, in New York City, the company announced Saturday.
Intended to offer “a more intimate and design-driven experience” than traditional hotels, The Manner is located in Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood. The hotel’s 97 rooms include 10 suites and one penthouse.
According to Standard International, the concept emphasizes “understated luxury” with a “home-like atmosphere.”
The Manner includes three dining options: The Otter, a seafood restaurant; Sloane’s, a cocktail bar; and The Apartment, a guest-only lounge. In 2025, the hotel’s rooftop will open, offering another private space for guests.
Milan-based Hannes Peer designed the hotel alongside Standard’s in-house team. Rooms feature full-length mirrors, marble bathrooms and custom chandeliers.
Speaking to Women’s Wear Daily in June, Standard Executive Chairman Amar Lavani said The Manner was designed to feel like a stay at a friend’s house, “very familiar and very generous.”
“There’s no nickel-and-diming on stuff: you’re not charged for sparkling water, still water. You’re not charged for your coffee in the morning. You get whatever you want,” Lalvani told Women’s Wear Daily. “You’re not charged for the late checkout. You’re not charged for premium Wi-Fi. It doesn’t happen at your friend’s house.”
Hyatt Hotels completed its acquisition of Standard International earlier this month, assuming Standard’s asset-light portfolio of management, franchise and license contracts for then-22 open hotels and more than 30 pipeline projects.
The deal is part of the hotel company’s ongoing push to expand in the luxury and lifestyle segment. Since 2017, Hyatt has more than doubled its number of luxury rooms and quintupled its number of lifestyle rooms worldwide, according to the company.
Outside of properties acquired through Standard International, Hyatt’s luxury and lifestyle division has 20 recent or planned openings across North America through 2025.
