Resorts World Las Vegas, which owns and operates a namesake hotel and casino at the northern end of the Las Vegas Strip, named Alex Dixon CEO.
The appointment is part of the company’s plan to “deepen and strengthen its leadership,” according to a Thursday statement. Resorts World Las Vegas simultaneously formed a new board of directors.
Las Vegas-native Dixon brings more than 20 years of combined experience in the global gaming, hospitality, entertainment, real estate and banking industries, according to Resorts World Las Vegas. He most recently served as CEO at Dubuque Racing Association, according to his LinkedIn.
Dixon previously held positions at Las Vegas operators MGM Resorts International and Caesars Entertainment. His experience will drive Resorts World Las Vegas’ pursuit of its strategic goals, including delivering “unparalleled guest experiences,” according to Kok Thay Lim, the chairman and chief executive of Resorts World Las Vegas holding company Genting Berhad.
The appointment comes as the Las Vegas operator faces a flurry of regulatory and financial challenges, The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.
The third quarter of 2024 was Resorts World Las Vegas’ worst financially in two years, the Review-Journal reported earlier this month. And Nevada gaming regulators alleged the operator has allowed illicit gambling activities and antimoney laundering failures, according to the Review-Journal.
Along with the appointment of Dixon, Resorts World Las Vegas formed a board of directors with industry veteran Jim Murren as chairman. The leadership restructuring is meant to “bolster the property's governance structure to help drive the go-forward business strategy,” according to the company.
Murren previously served as CEO and chairman of the board of directors at MGM Resorts and currently holds leadership positions at Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, the United Arab Emirates’ General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority, Cirque du Soleil and Playstudios, according to Resorts World Las Vegas.
The newly established board also includes A.G. Burnett, a partner in the Gaming and Administrative Law Group with Nevada-based business law firm McDonald Carano; Michelle DiTondo, a seasoned human resources industry leader with prior experience at MGM Resorts and Caesars; and Kong Han Tan, the president, COO and executive director of Malaysian hospitality company Genting Berhad.
The board members assumed their roles on Dec. 4, while Dixon’s CEO position is effective Jan. 16. The 86-acre Resorts World Las Vegas property spans some 3,500 rooms and suites and offers gaming, convention, retail, food, beverage and entertainment amenities.
