Dive Brief:
- MGM Collection with Marriott Bonvoy, the brand created through a strategic licensing agreement between MGM Resorts International and Marriott International, is now accepting reservations for 16 hotels and resorts, Marriott announced Wednesday.
- Marriott Bonvoy members can also earn and redeem points at properties within the collection, most of which are located in Las Vegas, including MGM Grand Hotel & Casino and Bellagio Las Vegas. The resorts are available to book on Marriott.com and the Marriott Bonvoy mobile app.
- With the collection, Marriott has converted some 31,000 rooms at MGM properties in Las Vegas under its reservation system, fortifying its position in a leading leisure and entertainment market — where its competitors are expanding, too.
Dive Insight:
The Las Vegas properties within MGM Collection with Marriott Bonvoy include New York-New York Hotel & Casino, MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, Vdara Hotel & Spa, The Signature at MGM Grand, Luxor Hotel & Casino and Excalibur Hotel & Casino.
The collection also includes four Las Vegas hotels already affiliated with existing Marriott brands — Bellagio, a Luxury Collection Resort & Casino; Park MGM Las Vegas, a Tribute Portfolio Resort; and ARIA Resort & Casino and The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, both under Autograph Collection.
Along with the collection, Marriott unveiled several Marriott Bonvoy Moments packages with entertainment and sports offerings in Las Vegas, including the chance to choreograph the Bellagio Fountain show.
The new loyalty rewards launch as travelers are “seeking larger-than-life moments that speak to their passions and the destinations they love,” Peggy Roe, executive vice president and chief customer officer at Marriott International, said in a statement.
MGM Collection with Marriott Bonvoy is the “fusion of two experiential giants” that will provide “epic and extraordinary moments” for guests, Roe added.
The brand strengthens Marriott’s limited presence in Las Vegas, a market that has hosted some of the biggest events in sports and entertainment in recent months, including Formula 1’s inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix and Super Bowl LVIII. And beyond leisure travel, the city has seen a recent resurgence in group and business travel, according to local operators.
Marriott peer Hyatt is similarly expanding in Las Vegas. Earlier this week, Hyatt announced Rio Hotel & Casino will join the Destination by Hyatt brand following a $340 million renovation.
Last week, Marriott Bonvoy launched a sweepstakes for members to win tickets to Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour as well as Swift-themed Moments packages.
