Dive Insight:
IHG recently opened the 104-key Atwell Suites — Kansas City Airport hotel near Kansas City International Airport and the city’s historic downtown. Next month, the hotel company plans to open the 90-key Atwell Suites — Henderson at the Pass hotel adjacent to The Pass Casino and America First Center in the Las Vegas suburb.
Also in November, IHG will open Atwell Suites Fort Worth — Alliance Area, a 96-suite hotel near Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance Airport and the city’s central business district.
The three hotels are designed to cater to both business and leisure travelers, including those seeking longer-stay accommodations, in their respective destinations, according to IHG. With the Kansas City hotel, Atwell Suites forays into a new market.
The property’s owner, Gary Mack, said the Kansas City airport corridor “has seen significant growth recently.”
“With our proximity to Kansas City International Airport and the influx of businesses establishing a presence in the area, we've become a prime destination for travelers seeking longer stays,” Mack said in a statement.
The Henderson hotel is similarly poised to attract business travelers, due to its proximity to major convention centers and attractions in Las Vegas, according to IHG. Earlier this year, Las Vegas led all other top U.S. markets for meetings and events growth.
The Fort Worth Atwell Suites, meanwhile, will cater to the influx of travelers that the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area has seen in recent years.
According to IHG, the hotels are part of a growing pipeline that will see Atwell Suites open more than 50 properties across the U.S. in the coming years. Other hotels in the pipeline are in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Cheyenne, Wyoming. Earlier this year, Atwell Suites opened its first conversion hotel in Austin, Texas.
In the third quarter of this year, IHG’s total global pipeline grew 12% year over year to 2,218 hotels, representing more than 327,000 rooms.
