Hyatt Regency Chicago, the largest hotel in the city and Hyatt’s largest hotel in the world, has completed a $150 million renovation — and more changes are yet to come.
The project — touching the hotel’s 2,032 guest rooms and suites, along with the Regency and Crystal ballrooms — wrapped earlier this month, providing “exceptional accommodations, gathering spaces, and unforgettable guest experiences for both business and leisure travelers,” according to Hyatt.
Guest rooms now feature an “open design, contemporary furniture, and plush comforts” to create an “intentional sense of calm,” according to Hyatt. The rooms also incorporate art representing the Windy City, like graphic patterns of Chicago's art deco architecture and a color palette that pays homage to the city’s greystones.
The Regency and Crystal Ballrooms, meanwhile, were revamped with new architectural lighting, fresh flooring, wall coverings, bathrooms, furniture and curated artwork in the pre-function spaces.
The renovation coincides with the property’s 50th anniversary, having first opened in 1974. It also comes on the heels of a $168 million lobby and meeting space improvement project the hotel underwent in 2013. In total, Hyatt has invested more than $270 million in the property over the last 10 years.
And there’s more on the horizon.
Planned renovations to the Grand ballroom as well as several smaller event spaces are slated for completion in 2025, according to Hyatt. The property has some 240,000 square feet of flexible meeting space in total.
The upper upscale Hyatt Regency brand currently has a growing portfolio of approximately 230 hotels, including two that opened in the Houston area last year.
Hyatt Hotels Corporation is in the midst of a larger expansion in the luxury lifestyle segment.
