Fairmont Breakers Long Beach opened after a multimillion-dollar transformation of a historic building in Long Beach, California, in partnership with Long Beach-based investment and development group Pacific6, parent company Accor announced Thursday. Located 25 miles south of Los Angeles, the property offers 185 rooms including 22 suites.
The property is on the site of a former hotel that originally opened in 1926 and hosted stars such as Elizabeth Taylor, Cary Grant, Babe Ruth and Clark Gable.
Global hospitality design firm HBA and Los Angeles’ RVD Associates led design for the hotel’s restoration. Many of the hotel's historic features, such as plaster molding, an original mailbox in the lobby and exterior ornamentation, are “restored to their original 1920’s glory,” according to Accor.
The hotel also features a collection of work from local artists and photographers, as well as vintage photos displaying the property’s decades long history.
Culinary offerings include the revamped Sky Room, a fine-dining restaurant that opened in 1938. The restaurant, which Accor says puts a “spin on classic fine dining,” offers expansive views of the Pacific coastline as well as daily caught seafood.
Fairmont Breakers also includes an Italian restaurant, Nettuno; Halo, the only rooftop bar in Long Beach, which offers 360-degree views spanning downtown Los Angeles and Catalina Island; Alter Ego, the hotel’s upscale jazz bar; and lobby bar La Sala.
Also on site is a 10,000-square-foot Fairmont Spa, which Accor says is the first and only luxury spa offering in the region. Meetings and events space also spans nearly 10,000 square feet, including ballrooms, meeting rooms and a reception terrace.
Fairmont Breakers is the brand’s 89th hotel globally. Accor said the hotel is “the first of a notable pipeline” of more than 30 properties under development, including the Fairmont New Orleans.
Hard Rock International is also developing a property in the market, the 427-room Hard Rock Hotel Long Beach, slated to open in 2027.
