Former Marriott Vacations Worldwide executive John Rees has joined Hard Rock International as senior vice president of hotel operations.
Rees joins Hard Rock after his most recent stint as vice president of resort operations and guest experience at Marriott Vacations Worldwide, where he was responsible for the operations of more than 130 properties worldwide.
The 30-year industry veteran started out his career as an executive chef at a luxury hotel before moving to hotel operations roles, including leadership positions at Marriott International and Ritz-Carlton.
“We're thrilled to have John lead the Hard Rock Hotel team as we continue to elevate our position as one of the world's most recognized global hospitality brands,” said Hard Rock International COO Jon Lucas, to whom Rees will report in his new role. “His depth of experience guiding world-class luxury and lifestyle hotels paired with his results driven leadership style makes John an invaluable addition to our company.”
As senior vice president of hotel operations, Rees is tasked with leading and supporting all facets of hotel operations across the Hard Rock International portfolio, including corporate-managed and franchised locations, the company said.
Hard Rock’s hotel portfolio comprises 37 hotel and casino properties worldwide — and the list is growing. In November, the company announced it will break ground on a 427-room full-service property in Long Beach, California, in summer 2024.
“I'm thrilled to join Hard Rock at this pivotal point of the Hard Rock Hotels brand journey,” said Rees. “Our future pipeline of hotel projects is very robust which will allow me to work with my teams to innovate and create more of the special brand touchpoints and guest experiences our fans expect.”
