Rising 37 stories, a new dual-branded Marriott hotel is one of the latest additions to the Los Angeles skyline.
The 727-room Moxy Downtown Los Angeles & AC Hotel Downtown Los Angeles, which will open April 12, is the first for the brand in the City of Angels. It will feature 12 new dining and entertainment venues and 13,000 square feet of meeting and events space.
The new hotel is in a prime location across from the Crypto.com Arena and Los Angeles Convention Center. It was developed by New York-based Lightstone, which has developed six Moxy hotels in New York City and Miami.
Designed by architecture firm Gensler, the dual-branded hotel comprises an L-shaped tower — with the 380-room Moxy on one side and the 347-room AC Hotel on the other — sitting atop an eight-story podium wrapped in a 15,000-square-foot LED screen. The screen is the largest 3D billboard on the West Coast, according to Marriott International.
The Moxy is desiged for guests who want a broad range of options for socializing and dining, and smaller rooms, while AC Hotel will cater to a modern, design-conscious traveler who wants the essential elements of an elevated hotel experience at an accessible rate, Marriott said in a press release.
International interior design studio Yabu Pushelberg has created distinct identities for both properties — with “sexy, irreverent, and playful” interiors for Moxy and “upscale and serene” design elements at AC Hotel.
The Moxy rooms will feature floor-to-ceiling windows; adaptable, space-saving furniture and storage solutions; and “industrial-chic” bathrooms with rain showers. The space also will offer a mezzanine level with vintage arcade games and a DJ booth.
The AC Hotel will have a more residential feel with “warm, light-filled public spaces,” including the AC Library anchored by a black steel fireplace.
Each hotel will offer its own unique dining and entertainment accommodations, including Moxy Bar, AC Bar & Lounge and AC Hotel’s La Lo La Rooftop. However, they also will share eight dining, drinking and entertainment venues on the property's eighth floor. The 30,000-square-foot floor will feature Mr. Wanderlust cocktail bar, Qué Barbaro live fire grill, French-Japanese teppanyaki restaurant Maison Kasai and traditional seiro mushi and hot pot joint Lucky Mizu, among others. Conceptualized by the Houston Hospitality team, the eighth floor also will feature live music, acrobatics and surprise performances when it opens later in the spring.
