Dive Insight:
The 15-story CitizenM Boston Back Bay is the hotel company’s second property in the Massachusetts capital and is the largest in its global portfolio. The hotel features local artwork and a rooftop bar, according to CitizenM Chief Brand Officer Robin Chadha.
Additional on-site amenities include a 24-hour gym, CitizenM’s signature CanteenM food-and-beverage concept serving snacks and drinks and a living room area “perfect for bleisure travelers catching up on emails,” the company detailed in a release.
The guest rooms feature “high-tech amenities and ultimate comfort,” according to the company. Each room includes an extra-large king-size bed, a 4K wide-screen TV with streaming options and a rain shower. Guests can control their room’s ambiance via an in-room iPad that can adjust the blinds, temperature, TV and lights with changeable colors.
The hotel, designed by CitizenM's long-standing architecture partner Concrete Amsterdam, is part of the 450,000-square-foot mixed-use development Lyrik, which will also house the global headquarters for automotive shopping site CarGurus and corporate offices for The Lego Group.
In early August, CitizenM opened the 168-room CitizenM Miami South Beach. The property offers similar “affordable luxury” design elements and amenities with “local flavor,” according to the company.
CitizenM’s South Beach hotel opening follows others in Miami, including Miami Worldcenter in 2023 and Miami Brickell in 2022. Beyond Miami, CitizenM has opened or announced plans for several hotels in top U.S. markets as part of its larger expansion across the country.
In March, CitizenM opened its first Austin, Texas, property, and the company also recently opened a hotel in Menlo Park, California, on the Meta campus. CitizenM’s portfolio includes hotels in New York City; Washington, D.C.; San Francisco; and Seattle.
Rani Gharbie, CitizenM’s managing director of investment and development for the Americas, told Hotel Dive in December that the “mix of broadening our portfolio into new cities and deepening our portfolio in core markets will be an important part of our growth strategy going forward.”
CitizenM has a target of doubling its portfolio by 2030, according to the company’s website.
