Dive Insight:
Expected to open in Spring 2025, the new Oregon properties join 65 hotels in Cambria's portfolio, including two that opened earlier this year in other new markets for the brand.
Earlier this month, Cambria opened its first hotel in downtown Detroit’s central business district, near some of the city’s largest corporate offices. The brand also expanded into Georgia with the Cambria Hotel Savannah Downtown Historic District, near hundreds of restaurants and local landmarks. There are more than 70 hotels in Cambria’s current pipeline.
Choice Hotels declined to comment on additional markets being explored this time. However, at the time of the Savannah opening, Janis Cannon, senior vice president of upscale brands at Choice Hotels, said Cambria’s nationwide expansion “stays focused on growth in markets with strong business and leisure demand.”
For the Portland market this demand is prevalent. Research by Marcus & Millichap from April shows hotel demand in Portland’s central business district increased by 600,000 room nights in the last year, driven by a “notable” rise in tourist-related foot traffic.
The six-story, 178-room Cambria Hotel Pearl District — Portland, located at 165 NW Park Ave., will feature design elements that reflect the “relationship between nature and industry” present in the surrounding Portland community, Choice Hotels said. The project is a collaboration among HighSide Development, architect and interior designer Baskervill, and general contractor Deacon.
“Portland is known for the vibrancy and uniqueness of its many neighborhoods, each with a distinct sense of place just like Cambria Hotels, and we look forward to showcasing the diverse communities through the new properties,” Cannon said.
Located roughly 20 minutes outside of Portland at 5523 NE Huffman St., the four-story, 115-room Cambria Hotel Hillsboro is being developed by Evergreen Hotel Development Group and joint venture partner Simi Valley Hospitality. Choice Hotels said its design is inspired by Oregon's state bird and flower.
