An MGM Resorts International hospitality property in Atlantic City, N.J., is getting a significant makeover on the cusp of its 20th birthday.
Construction is underway on a $55 million remodel of the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa Water Club, which will be completely redesigned and rebranded as the MGM Tower. The new design is a collaboration between Los Angeles-based interior design firm RVD Associates and the MGM Resorts International Design Group.
The tower’s existing 700-plus rooms and suites will be fully renovated, and 40 brand-new Vista Suites with wraparound views of the Atlantic City skyline will be available for guests. A 9,000-square-foot event space will replace the former Immersion Spa on the tower’s 32nd floor, though the property will continue offering spa services elsewhere. The tower’s corridors, elevator banks and lobby also will get a refresh.
Borgata representatives say the switch will allow the hotel to utilize the panoramic views of the tower and expand its group event offerings for guests.
MGM Tower is a nod to Borgata’s long-time property owner. Hotel representatives highlighted MGM Resorts’ global name recognition as motivation for the change.
“Introducing the MGM Tower connects Borgata with the unparalleled entertainment and resort experiences MGM Resorts is recognized for worldwide,” Corey Sanders, chief operating officer for MGM Resorts, said in a company press release. “We believe this significant reinvestment will drive visitation to Atlantic City well into the future.”
The Water Club is just a portion of the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, which offers a total of 2,000 hotel rooms and suites, 106,000 square feet of meeting and event space and 161,000 square feet of gaming space. The property also includes a 2,400-seat event center, nightclub, 11 retail boutiques, 13 restaurants and other outdoor amenities, including a beer garden and a Roman-style outdoor pool.
The newly remodeled rooms will become available in April, and the entire project is slated for completion by Memorial Day weekend.
